At sunrise in Palmdale, California, NASA’s X-59 quiet supersonic research aircraft sits on the ramp ahead of a critical milestone. Following the completion of low-speed taxi tests in July 2025, the aircraft is moving into medium- and high-speed taxi testing—the final steps before its first flight.
The X-59 is the centerpiece of NASA’s Quesst mission, designed to prove that supersonic flight over land can be quieter. By reshaping the traditional sonic boom into a softer “thump,” the program aims to gather real-world flight data that could help regulators rethink future noise standards for commercial supersonic travel.

Building From Example
We’re using the Athena V2 Iteration V18 from Sketchfab as the starting point for exploring the design and control of an actively guided rocket. This detailed model helps us understand the fundamentals of rocket framing, control systems, and coding needed for stabilization and flight.
